A little ways into the third season, after he's arrived at Babylon 5, but hasn't been there long. Description: With his dark hair, pale skin, and striking green eyes, Marcus is very handsome, a quality which it does not do for a Ranger to dwell on, but of which Marcus is very aware. Around six feet tall and 180 pounds, Marcus keeps himself fit at all times, as is necessary to perform all his duties as a Ranger. Though a Ranger's personal philosophy has little room for vanity, Marcus takes pride in his appearance. He keeps his thick hair long and wears a trim beard. As a Ranger, Marcus chiefly wore his Ranger uniform. It is designed for comfort and ease of movement in almost any environment. It is a brown garment that covers all of him but his head and hands. Additionally, he wears a long black coat. The outfit is designed in a Minbari style, featuring triangles and practicality. Marcus's most valuable accessory is his Ranger badge, a rare and precious piece of Minbari jewelry. Personality: Marcus is a genuinely good man. He is tormented by the death of his brother at the hands of his cosmic enemies, and has compensated by dedicating himself to his career as a Ranger with a singular passion. He has a great capacity for loyalty and perserverence, and does not tire easily. Despite the rigorous, almost monastic, training regimen of the Rangers, Marcus has maintained his sense of humour and his ability to keep hope in desperate situations. Despite his training, and his ability to react promptly to almost any strange challenge, Marcus is naïve in many ways. Since leaving his small birth-colony, he has spent nearly all of his time in training or on missions for the Rangers. While he is wise, his understanding of some matters is simplistic and untested. Background: Marcus was born on the mining colony of Arisa far from Earth. His parents ran the mining company, and his childhood was not hard. His parents were loving and well-off enough to provide a stimulating life for their two boys. Marcus and his brother were close in age, and played together almost exclusively. When he was still fairly young his elder brother left to join the new elite force called the Rangers, which was made up of both humans and the alien race of the Minbari. Formed in the aftermath of the Earth-Minbari War, the Rangers were meant to embody the possibilities of cooperation against the ancient and powerful race called the Shadows, a race dedicated to the promotion of the forces of chaos in the galaxy. Marcus who had little interest in interstellar affairs, stayed to manage the family business after his parents passed away. When his brother came back to visit the colony, he attempted to convince Marcus to join the Rangers as well, but Marcus was unwilling to give up his comfortable life. During the visit, the colony was attacked by the Shadows and everyone but Marcus was killed. As he held his dying brother, he promised him that he would follow in his footsteps and devote his life to the Rangers' cause. Driven by his guilt, he strove to excel among the Minbari and other humans training with him. He succeeded well, but never well enough to satisfy himself. Eventually, after he had proven himself to his superiors he was chosen as liason to Babylon 5. After arriving there he immediately proved himself invaluable to the command staff. Shortly after, he was, sadly for all of them, drawn unexpectedly through time and space to the Planet. Weaknesses: His simple wisdom is untested, and may not guide him well in all situations. He is driven to excel, and is never satisfied with his accomplishments. Strengths: His simple wisdom lends him purity of purpose. His hope gives him resilience. Likes: Devoting his life to his principles. Beauty. Dislikes: Suffering. Injustice. Talents and Hobbies: In addition to his standard Ranger skills, such as hand-to-hand fighting, subterfuge, and piloting spacecraft, Marcus is especially good with the Minbari fighting pike. Like any devoted member of a elite, monastic, fighting force, his chief hobbies are meditation and practicing his skills. Family and Friends: Marcus's family are all deceased.
